TB-500 is a peptide based on thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4) — the body’s main actin-regulating peptide, central to cell movement and tissue repair. It is one of the most popular recovery peptides, studied (as Tβ4) for wound healing, cardiac repair and tissue regeneration.
How TB-500 works
Thymosin beta-4 is the principal intracellular peptide that sequesters G-actin, regulating how cells build and reorganise their internal scaffolding. Through that actin control, Tβ4 promotes cell migration (skin, blood-vessel and cardiac cells), angiogenesis and tissue repair, with anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects in injury models. The short “TB-500” motif (Ac-LKKTETQ, residues 17–23 of Tβ4) is the actin-binding region thought to carry much of this activity.
What the research shows
- Wound healing (Malinda et al., 1999). Tβ4 increased re-epithelialisation and stimulated skin-cell migration in a rat wound model.
- Cardiac repair (Bock-Marquette et al., Nature 2004). Tβ4 activated survival signalling and improved cardiac function after coronary ligation in mice.
- Cardioprotection (Smart et al., 2007). Tβ4 promoted cardiac-cell survival and repair after infarction.
Candour: most evidence is for full-length thymosin beta-4 in animal/preclinical models; the short TB-500 peptide as actually sold has been studied very little, and a 2024 analysis suggested the fragment may be inactive without metabolic conversion. Note vendors use “TB-500” for both the fragment and full Tβ4 — the authoritative molecular values below are for Tβ4. Use belongs under a physician’s guidance.
