What is gonadorelin?
Gonadorelin is the synthetic form of GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) — the decapeptide the hypothalamus uses to tell the pituitary to make LH and FSH. It has been used clinically for decades in fertility and diagnostics.
How gonadorelin works
Gonadorelin is a GnRH-receptor agonist on pituitary gonadotroph cells, stimulating release of LH and FSH. Timing is everything: delivered in a pulsatile pattern that mimics the body’s natural rhythm (roughly every 60–120 minutes), it sustains gonadotropin output and drives the reproductive axis. Continuous, non-pulsatile exposure does the opposite — it desensitises the receptor and suppresses LH/FSH, the basis of long-acting GnRH-agonist therapy.
What the research shows
- Inducing puberty (Hoffman & Crowley, NEJM 1982). Pulsatile low-dose GnRH reversed hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in men, raising testosterone and inducing sperm production.
- Agonist vs antagonist (Couzinet et al., 1991). Directly contrasted GnRH agonist and antagonist effects on pulsatile LH/FSH secretion.
- Ovulation induction (Filicori, 2023). A modern review reported ~75% ovulation across 600 pulsatile-GnRH cycles with minimal hyperstimulation.
Context & candour: gonadorelin has been used clinically (e.g., as Factrel and via pulsatile pumps) as a diagnostic agent and to induce ovulation and puberty — noted for context only. Physique or anti-aging claims are not established. Use belongs under a physician’s guidance.

What Gonadorelin
is studied for
Here’s a plain-English look at the areas researchers focus on with gonadorelin — context to discuss with your physician, not medical advice.
LH / FSH release
Stimulates the pituitary to release luteinising and follicle-stimulating hormone.
Pulsatile action
Pulsed dosing drives the reproductive axis; continuous dosing suppresses it.
Fertility research
Used to induce ovulation and puberty in clinical settings.
Diagnostic history
Long used to test pituitary gonadotroph function.
Natural GnRH
The synthetic copy of the body’s own GnRH decapeptide.
Frequently asked questions
What does gonadorelin do?
Gonadorelin is synthetic GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone). It acts on the pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), the hormones that drive the testes and ovaries.
What is gonadorelin acetate?
Gonadorelin acetate is the acetate salt of gonadorelin, the stable form the peptide is supplied in. The active peptide is the same 10-amino-acid GnRH sequence.
Why is gonadorelin discussed for men?
Because LH is the signal that tells the testes to make their own testosterone and sperm. Gonadorelin is often discussed alongside testosterone therapy for that reason, and its use is a decision for the prescribing physician.
Does it matter how gonadorelin is given?
Yes. Pulsatile delivery, mimicking the body’s natural rhythm, sustains LH and FSH release. Continuous exposure does the opposite and suppresses them.
How much gonadorelin should I take?
Dosing, frequency and injection site are set by the prescribing physician for each person, so we don’t give dosing advice. If you need help with the mixing math for a dose your physician has set, our free peptide reconstitution calculator works it out for any vial size.
