Pinealon is a synthetic “ultrashort” peptide bioregulator — a tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Arg) from the same Russian research tradition as epithalon. It is studied mainly for neuroprotection and the brain, working at the level of gene expression rather than as a hormone.
How Pinealon works
Pinealon is described as a peptide bioregulator proposed to modulate gene expression and protein synthesis in nerve cells. In preclinical models it limited the build-up of reactive oxygen species and reduced cell death under oxidative stress. Proposed mechanisms include effects on MAPK/ERK signalling and on antioxidant and apoptosis-related genes. These are proposed, preclinical actions rather than established clinical effects.
What the research shows
- Cell viability (Khavinson et al., 2011). In neuronal cell models, pinealon dose-dependently limited ROS accumulation and reduced necrotic cell death under oxidative stress.
- Gene-expression review (Khavinson et al., 2021). Proposed EDR may influence MAPK/ERK signalling and antioxidant/apoptotic gene expression relevant to Alzheimer’s pathways.
- Prenatal protection (Arutjunyan et al., 2012). Reported pinealon reduced oxidative-stress markers and protected brain development in rat offspring.
Candour: the evidence is almost entirely single-group (Khavinson) Russian preclinical cell and rodent work, with no independent Western human trials; its molecular formula and CAS are supplier-reported and conflict across sources. Use belongs under a physician’s guidance.
